How are you supposed to exhale when singing?

Are you sure you don't mean inhale? You're exhaling almost the whole time you're singing. The proper time to inhale, which is sometimes easier said than done, is to time your exhaling to be ready for air intake at a comma, semicolon, or period in the lyrics at the end of a line. If there is none, you should try to make it to the next one.
