"Why do you think hotels can clean rooms every day but hospitals can't?

I work in a hospital and we are desperately trying to improve our cleanliness. In a brainstorming session recently, someone asked why hotels can clean rooms daily but we cannot. Is it because patients are sickly and unable to get up and out to do the cleaning...because we are understaffed...or what? It certainly is a priority for us but we just can't seem to get there. Interested to hear your thoughts on this.
